1964 Birds, and 1966 Decimal version of Birds
These early Australian bird stamp designs first came out in 1964. The 1964 versions are listed below with the face value in pennies or d, and in shillings or /-. The same designs were later re-used for decimal currency stamps in 1966, and the 1966 stamps are the ones listed with the face values in cents – c. Because the designs are repeated, the stamps illustrated show just one face value, even though two may be available, as with the 6d and 5c Thornbills. The 5c, 6c, 13c and 20c are shown here.

This set of four depicts a Blue heron, Snow goose, Horned owl and Spruce grouse. All have a face value of 34c.

1996 Migratory Wildlife
The birds from this set are the SG1646 Kingfisher, SG1647 Kingfisher, and 1648 Pintail. The Kingfishers differ only in the text, the illustration is the same. This set also includes a bat and a butterfly (see Wild Animals by Theme and Butterflies).
