History

Many of the stamps here depict military themes, such as the classic GB battle of Hastings and Battle of Britain sets. I have also included stamps showing the lives of European pioneers. You can also find stamps with an historical theme in 'Maps', and 'Stamps on Stamps' below. The Seychelles map of 'Louisiana', for example, is interesting, because it shows how big Louisiana once was, while the Seychelles stamp commemorating the purchase of Alaska reminds us that Alaska has only been part of the US since 1867. They also remind us that warfare is not the only way of gaining territory. The 1917 stamps celebarating the 1864 Canadian Conference, in 'Stamps on Stamps' is also a piece of history. I have a lot more 'historical' stamps, so please ask if you are collecting stamps on historical themes.

Stamps on Stamps and Postal History

Collectors often find a favourite stamp reissued on another stamp. Australia' 6d kookaburra makes an attractive stamp on stamp, for example.
