Birds on Stamps

And for English speakers:

Here is a selection of some of the birds stamps on offer through filatelicbird.co.uk. It is only a small selection of the many bird stamps available here, so if you want to ask about any bird stamps you are especially looking for, please contact me. You can email me c/o alisonlever@yahoo.co.uk and I will see what I can find for you. I am delighted to make up selections of birds from one country, owls, birds of prey etc, checking with you by email that what I am sending you is what you want to fill in gaps your collection. I offer discounts for large orders.

Travellers in central Spain can also come and look at bird stamps in the village of Lagartera, located in important birdwatching country near Oropesa, some 20 miles south of the Gredos mountains. Just ask for Alison in Bar Maykel, which is off the main square of Lagartera. Lagartera is off the Nacional V route, and is about half way between Talavera and Navalmoral de la Mata, just past Oropesa, if you are travelling from Talavera to Navalmoral.

Most stamps depicted here are used. I specially select used stamps for light postmarks, which pushes up the price a little, and means that you can actually see the stamp, not the postmark! Many of the stamps depicted are also available as mint stamps, and I have mint sets, singletons and covers of many other bird stamps.

Mauritius

1965 and  1968 Birds

The designs for these Mauritian birds first came out in 1965, and were reissued with an overprint 'self-government' in 1967, and for a third time in 1968 with different background colours. Only the Rodriguez Fody from the 1965 designs is shown here. The Fody pictured here with a blue background was actually issued in 1967, though the design is from 1965. The Tropic bird listed below the 1965 set has a similar design (though the Queen faces a different way), but was only issued in 1967.

If this explanation gives you information overload, and you only want the pictures of the birds, you could go for the cheaper 1965 ones! The others tend to have more appeal for serious collectors, though personally I think the 1967 blue background for the 3c Fody is much prettier than the 1965 one with the brown background.

1965

Description Price
2c Bourbon White-Eye (yellow background) £0.05
3c Rodriguez Fody (brown background) £0.05
5c Paradise Flycatcher £0.10
10c Mauritius Fody £0.05

1967

Description Price
2c Red Tailed Tropic bird £0.50

1968 (As 1965 but with different background colours)

Description Price
2c Bourbon White-Eye (olive background) £0.95
3c Rodriguez Fody (blue background) £1.75

I have a few more of these 1965-1968 birds, including some higher face values, please ask.

Ordering stamps:
Please allow £0.95 (95p) if you come from anywhere in Europe, and £1.50 if orders are to be sent elsewhere. The postage charge is the same however many stamps you buy. This means that it's cheaper to buy more than one stamp, because the cost of packaging and postage is less per stamp. This reflects the time spent ensuring that the stamps are packed so that they arrive to you safely - it takes about the same time for one stamp as for larger orders.

Your stamps will be sent as soon as I receive payment. You can return the stamps and obtain a refund if they are not what you expected. Paypal is preferred, though other forms of payment can be negotiated. Euros are welcome as well as pound sterling.
